Firefox 1.5 has been released!
What happenned to the other versions? Well, I’ve been on Mars for a while … it kinda happens when your in the programming zone … but anyway, this is cool.
It’s faster, neater, and hopefully has its funky little bugs fixed. But for those that wondered what happenned since v1.0.7 - they basically thought that a version jump was a better reflection on the progress they’ve made. I think so too.
So technically v1.5 is really v1.1 … but who cares?
Well, go get it then!?!

If your a geek like me … you must know this place… if you don’t … I spit on you!!

Go there my children … geek yourself to oblivion!
I was checking my web statistics the other day and came upon something amusing. Not suprising - but amusing nonetheless.
This site at the moment doesn’t gather many hits as its new, its probably boring and well - needs some colour. However, I was rather surprised to see about 80 unique visitors … but on closer inspection most of the referrers were coming from techonorati a site that tracks web blogs like blo.gs and pingomatic.
A typical referrer was like this:
http://www.technorati.com/tag/sex
I’m so tempted to stick more naughty links up, but the hits wouldn’t justify extra attention plus I’d probably get flamed for dissapointing a lot of cocks … hahah
Oh ok, here’s a pic of a nice lady for you hungry spotty kids…

phhooaaar…

This is the last thing I expected from an IT magazine. Go figure …
A good old friend came to visit today and during our conversation the subject crossed into London Councils (as he’s contracting at one at the moment).
Now, I’ve always wondered how London Councils piss money away as they’re always short on cash end up raising council tax - but here’s a disturbing example.
B, as I’ll name him works in some IT department and needed to make a change to one of their servers to re-synch the clock as it was 20 minutes slow/fast (can’t remember). Aaaaanyway, council bureaucracy at its best, he needed to fill out a request form (just to update the system clock I know!?).
4 days later when it finally filtered to the outsourced company - it cost a magnificent £450GBP (thats $775USD at today’s exchange rate)!
4 days …
£450 …
1 server clock update … which takes a few mouse clicks … 5 secs at most …
…
It struck B that people have a lack of responsibility when it comes down to certain things like this. No one really cares that this is a horrible waste of money and that he could not even begin to effect any change as he is merely a small cog in a much bigger engine - is demonstrative of people who could do something but do not have the inclination either because they would stir trouble for themselves or really couldn’t care less.
What a sad state of affairs this is.
I should be ashamed of myself…how did I not see this?!
if ($this->_checkSessionExists()){
// init session variables
$_SESSION['admin_id'] = false;
$_SESSION['member_id'] = false;
$_SESSION['admin_name'] = false;
}
It’s a bit dum to initialise a session when you need to retrieve the info …
I ought to be on the “Daily WTF“! geesh…
British rail and the term ‘nice people’ never quite go together. However this morning whilst rushing to work - I was waiting for a later train as the one earlier was delayed by 16 minutes (average I would say). As normal, only 4 carriages turned up with people already packed like sardines … you could see the steam on the window as they were squashed against it.
Anyway, I noticed people getting on the end door of the last carriage. Rushing over I quickly tried to step on, but this guy was blocking my way as he was trying to get on himself. The driver announced that he was just about to close the doors as I was thinking ‘crap, I’m gonna be unceremoniously squeezed off … ‘, however this hand popped out, grabbed my arm and pulled me on.
What a gent! I nice man in his (probably) mid to late 60s - gave an encouraging smile, and I thanked him.
That is soooo rare these days… why can’t everyone be like this?
I watch ‘The O.C.‘ - its a teen angst type show, but I like it anyway. The soundtrack to the show is amazing to anyone else who hasn’t seen the show … and fortunately you can buy the CD compilations.
I think I’m having an O.C. moment … that sad sick feeling in your stomach …
Listening to ‘A Lack of Color’ by ‘Death Cab For Cutie‘ isn’t helping … so why is it when we are sad we like listening to music that makes it worse? Is there some form of self gratification in it?
Marriage is hard work - its not in my habit to publicise my woes so I won’t ellaborate too much. However, this is my stage - and this is where I vent when there’s no where else to go to. I’ve talked to friends, but like with a comforting meal - you need time to digest whats been placed before you. Perhaps blog thing is the same type of escapism for many other people? Perhaps not. Indeed, who cares?
I cannot stress the truth that communication is the key to a successful relationship. When you can’t talk to your partner, not because you don’t want to but because blame gets in the way - you just feel you want to rip out your own heart and tell it…
Wake up and listen … listen to what she’s saying. Don’t blame her for her faults or your own - just listen …
Ultimately, short of hurting each other with words - there’s always room to listen and compromise. It’s just sad that tempers and emotions get in the way of that most important skill we have … to listen. I’d like to think I try hard to appease my partner, its funny sometimes how you can appear in their eyes. A big heart to forgive and forget is what we need. Yes, “all you need is ‘love’ - John Lennon, shot in the back, very sad … “, ID4.
I think end this posting with part of a serenity prayer that really sums up the best way to move on, despite being buddhist I find there is great wisdom in these words (all religions promote good things, its just a shame there are a lot of misguided individuals out there):
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
I hope you find solace in these words in your part of the world …
argghh … You either love the Sky+ box or you hate it.
If you happen to have a Sky+ box and have problems with the hard drive losing space for no apparent reason, here’s a quick fix (works with the v1 Pace box, no idea if it works with the new versions):
1. Press: Services, 4, 0, 1 and then SELECT
2. Choose: ‘Planner Rebuild”
It will reboot re-shortly, and hopefully you’ll get some or all space back. phew…
Its that time of year again to dig deep and contribute a little towards helping those kids who really need it …
I’ve been supporting the NSPCC for a couple of years now, and although its sad that I have to stop my regular contributions for the moment as I’m moving country, I will keep a keen eye on what they’re up to.
However, “Children in need” can be a great way for me and everyone else to contribute if we don’t or can’t do so regularly. It’s also great fun watching celebrities embarrass themselves heheh, I’m so sadistic … ahem …
So what are you waiting for already?? Give a little…
